About

Why Does Proverbs Three Nine Foundation Exist?

We exist primarily to bring glory to God by being wise stewards of the funds provided to us through God’s good graces. We create grants for Christian organizations that are actively engaged in making more and better disciples of Christ (Matt 28:19-20). Our intent is to provide ongoing funds without depleting the initial investment.

What Kind of Organization is Proverbs Three Nine Foundation?

We are a non-profit corporation registered in the State of Washington. We have received our 501 (c) (3) non-profit status with the IRS. We are classified as a private foundation. A private foundation is a legal entity set up by an individual, a family, or a group of individuals, for philanthropic purposes. Because the funding for the organization is not widespread, the IRS only allows tax deductions at a 30% level instead of 50%.

Why Was Proverbs Three Nine Foundation Formed in This Way?

We formed the Proverbs Three Nine Foundation with the express purpose of honoring the the Lord with the abundance that He has provided us. We want to leave a legacy that will extend to future generations. We researched various options:
  • Charitable Gift Annuities
  • Charitable Remainder Trusts
  • Deferred Gifts Through Wills and Bequests
  • Donor Directed Funds
We decided that the best way for us to provide ongoing gifts to our favorite Christian outreach organizations was to establish the Proverbs Three Nine Foundation.

How Will Donations to Proverbs Three Nine Foundation Be Used?

Small donations will be sent directly to organizations without setting up reoccurring grants. It is actually counterproductive to send us donations and then have us forward the funds to an organization. Large donations will be used to increase the size of existing holdings used for reoccurring grants. Donors may suggest how the donations are to be used, but we do not provide donor directed funds. If you want to join us and your suggestions agree with our goals, we will do our best to incorporate them in our planning. You may contact us by using the form in the column.

Can Assets be Donated for Reoccurring Grants?

Assets such as stocks and bonds held in brokerage accounts are easily donated. If they already produce an acceptable rate of return, the dividend or interest will be used to fund an reoccurring grants. Otherwise they will be sold and the proceeds will be reinvested to achieve the necessary rate of return.

Other assets may also be donated but will most likely be sold and reinvested. An example of an asset that probably would not be sold is the copyrights to books so that Proverbs Three Nine receives the royalties, providing the valuation of the rights and the royalties produce an acceptable rate of return.
